![]() As with any Lexus, build quality is excellent and everything is extremely well put together. The RX’s interior is a mixed bag of good and bad. Without the F Sport package, the RX looks rather dull so make sure to check that box when putting yours together. The side profile has enough lines and curves as to not look like a bar of soap like many other crossovers. ![]() The jewelled headlights and L-shaped LED daytime running lights elevate the overall look. With the taller profile of a sport utility vehicle, the grill looks right at home and not as offensive as when this design first came out. The standard Lexus spindle grill is present and larger than ever. ![]() This generation has been around for nearly six years at this point, which leads us to believe a full redesign is on its way. I will go out on a limb and admit that it does look great from the front and side profiles, however the rear looks a bit plain in comparison. Our RX 450h is equipped with the F-Sport package, which brings with it a more aggressive and sporty exterior. This 2022 Lexus RX 450h is the sum of four generations of RX, and we set out to determine if its success is still as well deserved. Though sedans and coupes were all the rage at the time, Lexus introduced their first SUV in 1998 which went on to become the best-selling luxury sport-utility in North America to date. This only benefited consumers as quality scores went up across the board and much of the technology and safety features eventually made it down to mainstream offerings. A trickle-down effect occurred and all the other luxury brands needed to step up. With a level of quality and customer satisfaction unheard of with the Germans, they had no place to go but up. When Lexus entered the luxury car market in 1989, little did they know the impact the brand would have. We'd like to see whether it maintains the temperature in the summertime. This is the 2022 Lexus RX 450h F-Sport. We also realized the heated seats weren't needed right away since this material doesn't seem to get as cold as leather in the winter. We liked this man-made synthetic leather for a few reasons, mainly because it was very easy to clean after an accidental coffee spill - no liquid was absorbed. The model we had on our test drive came in soft Black NuLuxe, metallic trim, and plenty of soft-touch plastics. The black upholstery comes with white accents and gray stitching, unless you opt for the Black Line extended body length, which sports blue stitching. This year's Black Line is equipped with a model-specific interior. The Circuit Red NuLuxe and Scored Aluminum trim looks good but is perhaps a bit too wild for the average RX customer. You can have a sportier interior on F Sport models. The top-tier Luxury Package offers the same colors, but the trim is upgraded to Sapele Wood and Aluminum. On L models, you can also opt for Open Pore Walnut. Upgrading to more premium hide unlocks Glazed Caramel NuLuxe upholstery and Matte Walnut trim. If you have smaller kids, stay away from the lighter tones, though. We'd be happy with any of these combinations, as all are tastefully executed. Standard color options include Birch, Parchment, and Black, all coupled with Striated Black trim. For a few thousand dollars, you can upgrade the upholstery to semi-aniline leather. All other surfaces are covered in soft-touch materials, and what little plastic Lexus uses is of the highest quality. The standard upholstery across the range is NuLuxe - Lexus marketing language for leatherette.
